What happens

Father Benson brings his new curate, Mr. Sedley, to visit Madeline Tremaine, a reclusive former actress who has lived alone for nine years. During a storm she recounts her past in a darkened room. As a young actress she married the older actor John Gaylord, and their marriage strained as her career rose while his faded. Her account of their life together, and the tensions between them, unfolds in an episode of the radio series Suspense, first broadcast on December 28, 1944. The drama is presented as Madeline's own telling, and the visitors listen to the story she chooses to share.

Listen for: Madeline's account of her marriage to John Gaylord and her career rivalry with Nell Garrett, told in her own voice during the storm

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
