What happens
Clark Kent, a reporter for the Daily Planet who is secretly a special agent for the Secret Service, takes on a dangerous assignment to stop saboteurs threatening the nation's defense industries. The notorious criminal known as the Yellow Mask has escaped from the state prison after a gun was smuggled to him, and police in five states are searching for him. Terry White, editor of the Daily Planet, knows of Kent's secret appointment. Later, the Yellow Mask phones the newspaper threatening revenge against Kent and White, and the call is traced to the Daily Planet building itself, where the lights suddenly go out. This is an episode of The Adventures of Superman, first broadcast on December 19, 1941.
