What happens

Robert C. Miller, a United Press war correspondent, joins a United States task force in the Pacific and is sent to Guadalcanal in August. He lands with the Marines on the hostile beach, is knocked into the surf on arrival, and watches a night naval battle from the shore. Setting up a small press bureau in a headquarters tent, he later accompanies a jungle patrol with photographer Sherman Montrose and helps capture a Japanese prisoner. The episode is told in Miller's own words from his Guadalcanal notebook, with the series narrator and General Vandergrift's tribute framing the account.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
