What happens
Erwin Trowbridge, a greeting card verse writer in suburban Ozone Heights, is shocked when his wife Audrey's brother Clarence finds a black book full of women's names, which Erwin admits are horses he has been quietly handicapping on the bus. Erwin insists he simply picks winners for fun, but after a drink and a long afternoon of tipsy betting, his wife and brother-in-law grow suspicious that he is secretly gambling. The episode is the first part of a half-hour comedy from the Screen Guild Theater series, first broadcast on 1944-02-28, starring Charlie Ruggles, Isabelle Jules, Sam Levine and James Dunn.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
