What happens
Howard, an Englishman fishing in the French Alps in June 1940, is drawn into caring for a group of children fleeing the German advance. Traveling toward the coast, he and young Ronald, along with Sheila, Rose and others, face soldiers, bombing and the chaos of collapsing France. Howard is stern and reluctant at first, but grows attached to the children as their journey continues. This episode of the Screen Guild Theater, first broadcast on August 16, 1943, stars Monty Woolley as Howard and Roddy McDowell as Ronald. The story is adapted from Nevil Shute's tale, and the broadcast is a radio version of the film's plot.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
