What happens

Police officer Jim O'Malley is a strict enforcer of the city code, handing out tickets for small violations. When he stops a struggling father, John Phillips, over a broken muffler, the man is late for a job and loses it. Captain Cromwell reassigns O'Malley to a school crossing, where he meets Judy Nolan, a former childhood acquaintance. O'Malley begins to soften as he gets to know the local children, especially young Barbara Phillips, whose leg needs help. The story is part of the Screen Guild Theater series, first broadcast on July 8, 1946, and is presented as a Warner Brothers production.

Characters: Jim O'Malley, Captain Cromwell, John Phillips, Judy Nolan, Barbara Phillips, Mrs. Phillips, Dr. Lawson

Listen for: O'Malley's shifting attitude toward the law and the children, and the warm exchange with Judy Nolan at the school crossing

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
