What happens
Gregory Vance, a former Harvard scholar now working as a night watchman, is fired by Iron Hat McCarthy, a corrupt ward boss, after a dispute over his daughter Joan's schooling. McCarthy then discovers that Vance is the lone registered voter in the 13th precinct, which decides the city election, and he begins courting Vance's vote. Joan, who has taught her father a great deal, watches closely as her father is offered jobs in exchange for his ballot. Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
