What happens

Ernest Ball, a young songwriter, meets Mary O'Neill, called Irish, backstage in Cleveland, and the two fall in love. Irish walks out on him after a quarrel, and Ernest heads to New York to find work and a hearing for his songs. There he plugs songs for a publisher and eventually sings his own composition at a nightclub, where a wealthy gambler, Edgar, takes an interest. Edgar makes a wager with his friend Al about making a star of a woman. The Lady Esther Screen Guild Players present Irish Eyes Are Smiling, a 20th Century Fox musical romance, on the Screen Guild Theater series. The program first aired on 11 March 1946 and stars Dick Haymes and June Haver.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
