What happens

Joan Burns and James Burns take jobs as cook and butler for the gangster Dan Nolan, though neither is who they seem to be. Nolan delights in Joan's cooking, while his bodyguard Flash grows suspicious of the couple, who must share a bedroom and a balcony. Joan's old employer, James Buchanan, appears in the household, adding confusion to the arrangement. This is the Screen Guild Theater's 1941 presentation of the Columbia comedy If You Could Only Cook, broadcast on November 23, 1941, and starring Priscilla Lane, Humphrey Bogart and Adolphe Menjou. The story has reached the point where Nolan's interest and Flash's suspicions are pushing the situation toward trouble.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
