What happens
Trevor McGee and his wife Molly live a quiet life until a letter from his cousin Alvin invites them to Washington. Trevor is reluctant at first, but after a clever trick with a bottle impresses people, he is persuaded to go. In Washington he becomes involved with Dr. Gallup, who is looking for the average man through a nationwide survey, and McGee soon finds himself hoping to speak for ordinary people in the halls of government. The story is part of the Screen Guild Theater series, first broadcast on February 10, 1947, and this episode stars Trevor McGee and Molly in the main roles.
A small town home and then Washington, D.C., in the 1940s
Characters: Trevor McGee, Molly McGee, Alvin Clark, Dr. Gallup
Listen for: Trevor's growing enthusiasm for speaking up as the average man, and Dr. Gallup's survey idea
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
