What happens

Polly Perry, a department store clerk, is fired on the day before Christmas and then finds herself holding an abandoned baby outside an orphanage, where the matron insists she is the mother. Store owner J.B. Merlin's son David later rehires her, but Polly soon faces unwanted attention and pressure over the child. Lucille Ball, Joseph Cotton and Charles Coburn star in this Screen Guild Theater comedy, broadcast on April 28, 1949. The story, a comedy of mistaken identity, continues beyond this part of the broadcast.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
