What happens

Rick Fitzgerald and his sister Pamela move into Windward House, a Devonshire cliffside home where unexplained sobbing is heard at dawn. Rick's new acquaintance Stella Meredith, who was raised by her grandfather and has been forbidden to visit the house, is drawn to it and begins to feel the presence of her late mother, Mary Meredith. Rick grows alarmed as the house seems to threaten Stella, and he begins to piece together the history of the Meredith family and the Spanish model Carmel. This adaptation of the 1949 film The Uninvited is presented on Screen Director's Playhouse, broadcast on November 18, 1949, starring Ray Milland in his original role.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
