What happens

Rip Smith, a public opinion pollster, discovers that the small town of Grandview matches the national breakdown of voters, sex ratio and other figures, and sees it as a shortcut for polling the whole country. He and his partner Ike Sloan move into Grandview to sell insurance while secretly studying its residents. Rip is drawn into a rivalry with Mary Peterson, the outspoken editor of the town newspaper, who favors changes to the town's civic center plan. Presented on the Screen Directors Playhouse radio series, this adaptation stars Jimmy Stewart in his original film role and Virginia Gregg as Mary.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
