What happens
Polly Parish, a shop girl at Merlin and Sons department store, is fired on her birthday and, while waiting for a bus, is handed an abandoned baby that she cannot easily give up. She tries to leave the infant at a foundling home, but the store's owner, J.B. Merlin, insists she keep it. Meanwhile his son David Merlin, a playboy who finds the situation absurd, becomes entangled with Polly and the child. Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
