What happens

Forest rangers Bill and Tom ride home at the close of the season and stop at an abandoned line shack, where a wary man with a rifle orders them away. Ralph Landers tells them the man is Dr. William Warburton, a former surgeon who gave up medicine after a patient died on the operating table and who has been living as a hermit in the West. Later, a climber is injured on the cliffs of Old Baldy, and the rangers lead the rescue. The doctor is needed to operate, and Bill must persuade him to face his past and take up the knife again.

A mountain forest wilderness in late autumn, near the town of Nottipine, including a remote line shack and the cliffs of Old Baldy.

Characters: Ranger Bill, Ranger Tom, Ralph Landers, Dr. William Warburton, Stumpy, Gray Wolf, Doc

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
