What happens
Following the fall of the Manchu dynasty in 1911, China struggles to free itself from foreign control and to build a true republic, while corrupt warlords fight for power under the influence of Japan. Chiang Kai-shek works to unify the country as Japan invades in 1937. Refugees flee into the interior, where workers form cooperatives to produce arms and supplies, and guerrillas and regular troops resist Japanese advances. The Pacific Story, broadcast by NBC in 1943, presents this account through drama and commentary by Owen Lattimore, director of the School of International Relations at Johns Hopkins University.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
