What happens

In 1895, revolutionary plotters in Canton, led by Dr. Sun Yat-sen, hide a shipment of pistols after a secret consignment is seized by customs, and then burn their records as the authorities close in. The story follows the revolutionary movement across the years that follow: the organizing of the Tongmenghui in Tokyo, the young revolutionary Qiu Jin and her cousin Xu Xilin, and the uprising at Wuchang on October 10, 1911. It traces how the Manchu dynasty crumbled and how the revolution passed into the years of warlord rule that followed. This episode of The Pacific Story, an NBC public service series, is broadcast on October 31, 1943.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
