What happens
Madeline, a newspaper reporter, recounts her years in Singapore, where she joined her husband Clyde, an officer with a Scottish regiment, before the Japanese invasion. She arrives by ship and tours the bustling port, the Chinese quarter and the new naval base, where she sees the great floating dry dock and the defensive installations. As tension grows across Europe and Asia, she watches the Japanese advance while British forces prepare for a possible siege. The Pacific Story is the series, and this episode aired on August 19, 1945. The narration is delivered by Madeline, and the episode's transcript is partial, covering only the early portion of the story.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
