What happens

The Pacific Story, a 1943 NBC series, presents this episode, 'India: From Clive to Gandhi,' and follows the British founding of control in India. Robert Clive, a young English clerk, quarrels in a duel and later plans with Admiral Watson and Omichand against Siraj-ud-Dowla, the Nawab of Bengal. Clive weighs a risky attack at the battle of Plassey, where he relies on Mir Jafar's uncertain loyalty and a rainstorm that soaks the Nawab's guns. The story then moves through the British expansion that followed, through the rise of Gandhi and his salt march, and ends on the views of Nehru and the independence struggle.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
