What happens

In the Lolo mountains of southwest China, a young Chinese man named Julian, raised as a slave, recounts how his father and uncle were captured by the Lolo tribe after they ventured into the country without permission. His father rose from slave to white bone, a second-class status, and Julian was born into bondage. The story follows the Lolo's blood feuds, the rise of the warlord General Tang, and the Lolo chieftains' forced acceptance of his offer. This episode of The Pacific Story, first broadcast by NBC on December 8, 1946, is a documentary-drama that draws on the region's history and the fate of missing Americans.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
