What happens
Lamont Cranston, a wealthy man who is also the Shadow, looks into a narcotics ring operating around town after the Women's Club raises concerns about drug peddling and deaths. At the Club Kalif, he watches the Indian dancer Sadie Belada perform with a cobra and suspects she is connected to the drug trade. Her interest in him and a dangerous warning soon follow. The Mercury Theatre on the Air presented this adaptation of the Shadow stories on October 24, 1937. The transcript ends partway through the story, so the full plot is not covered here.
A city club, the Club Kalif, and the Gleason and Cranston households, with later scenes at the police commissioner's office and aboard a freighter in the harbor.
Characters: Lamont Cranston, The Shadow, Margot Lane, Sadie Belada, Jerry Gleason, Andrew Gleason, Commissioner Weston, Alexis
Listen for: Sadie Belada's cobra dance and her exchange with the Shadow in her dressing room, which set up the central confrontation.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
