What happens

Young George Amberson Minafer, spoiled only son of Isabel Amberson and Wilbur Minafer, is raised in a Midland town that once revolved around his proud family. In the years after the Amberson fortunes begin to fade, George grows arrogant and rude, dismissing the people around him. His mother Isabel is devoted to him, while Eugene Morgan, the man Isabel once rejected, watches the family's decline. Within the family household, tensions build over George's treatment of others and his refusal to take up a serious career. The episode presents these events from The Magnificent Ambersons, a Booth Tarkington novel adapted for The Mercury Theatre on the Air, first broadcast on October 29, 1939, with Walter Huston and Orson Welles in the leading roles.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
