Helena Barna, an actress desperate to leave the country, approaches him at the Club Breyer and asks for his help. Lime agrees to smuggle her out for a large sum in gold pengos, and the two meet by night to plan the escape. Lime later visits a police lieutenant to arrange a work permit for her. The episode is part of The Mercury Theatre on the Air series, first broadcast on January 25, 1952, and the transcript does not name its lead actors.

Post-war Budapest, Hungary, and the nearby border region with Austria

Characters: Harry Lime, Helena Barna, Lieutenant, Inspector

Listen for: Lime's sardonic narration about his business, and the tense exchanges at the barbed wire border

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
