What happens
Lamont Cranston, known to the underworld as The Shadow, and his companion Margo Lane look into a strange epidemic at a United States army base. The outbreak begins after Dr. Nicholas Harris and Dr. Kalanza, a visitor from abroad, arrive at the base, and the soldiers fall sick with an unknown disease. Cranston is refused entry when he tries to examine the post under quarantine, so he works to uncover what is behind the sickness. Dr. Harris is pulled into the affair as a plan involving a deadly germ comes to light. The Mercury Theatre on the Air broadcast this adaptation of The Shadow on August 21, 1938.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
