What happens

Professor Anton Edwards leads a small expedition into the African jungle with his daughter Lorna and his colleague Jack. At their camp on the Upper Congo, the professor has kept a preserved severed head that cackles and mumbles, a relic he was given after promising a dying native to return it to its people. Jack arrives early, having heard rumours along the river. Lorna has been growing uneasy and unwell, and the professor, who believes the head's legend, confides in Jack about a golden race said to live somewhere in the interior. The episode ends with a sudden cry from Lorna.

A camp in the African jungle, two hundred miles from the Upper Congo River in French equatorial Africa, at night and the following day.

Characters: Professor Anton Edwards, Lorna Edwards, Jack

Listen for: The eerie cackling of the preserved talking head, the dying native's account of the white warrior's head, and the sudden cry from Lorna at the end.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
