What happens

Dr. Jim Pearson, a young doctor with a wandering past, arrives in the small town of Fall Bridge to replace Dr. McRory, who is leaving for a two-month vacation. The townspeople and the older doctor regard the newcomer with suspicion, and Trudy Mason, a local woman, is openly unimpressed by him. The story follows the early friction between Pearson and the community, including a sudden emergency that tests his skills. This is the first act of the Lux Radio Theatre production Welcome Stranger, broadcast on April 5, 1954, starring Cary Grant, Barry Fitzgerald and Pat Crowley.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
