What happens
In early 1900s Wyoming, the Virginian, a quiet cowboy, meets his old friend Steve in the town of Medicine Bow, where the two swap stories and trade barbs. Steve is drawn into the orbit of Trampus, a hard-edged cowhand whose rivalry with the Virginian simmers beneath the surface. The Virginian takes an interest in Molly Wood, the new schoolteacher from Vermont, and their courtship grows through a series of rides and conversations about books and manners. Meanwhile Steve is pulled deeper into Trampus's schemes. This Lux Radio Theatre production of Owen Wister's story, from November 2, 1936, stars Gary Cooper, Charles Bickford, Helen Mack and John Howard.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
