What happens

Monty Stratton, a young Texas farmer and pitcher, meets Barney Wynn, a washed-up former catcher, on a country road near Wagner. Barney coaches him through a winter on the farm, then arranges a tryout with the Chicago White Sox under manager Jimmy Dykes. In Chicago, Monty meets Ethel, a young woman from Omaha, and his life begins to change around baseball and romance. This is the Lux Radio Theatre's 1950 adaptation of The Stratton Story, broadcast on February 13, 1950, with James Stewart and June Allyson in the lead roles. The story follows Monty's rise as a pitcher and the choices he faces along the way.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
