What happens
Dr. Carlos Morales arrives in Savannah to take charge of the Darby estate, left to him by General Darby, whose daughter Nancy resents him. The transcript follows the early conflict between Carlos and Nancy, from the general's deathbed and a tense reception to a court battle over the will and a town council vote for a new health officer. Carlos is drawn into a concern about plague in the city, and the account stops as Carlos and Nancy head out together to tour the Sangaree plantation. This is the Lux Radio Theatre production of Sangaree, broadcast on January 25, 1955, starring Arlene Dahl as Nancy and Cesar Romero as Carlos.
Savannah, Georgia, in 1781, and the Sangaree plantation; the story opens at an army encampment in Vermont during the storm of October 1781.
Characters: Carlos Morales, Nancy Darby, Roy Darby, Martha Darby, General Darby, Gabe Beck, Harvey Bristol, Dolly
Listen for: The confrontation over the Darby will and the court scene, and the closing tease of the health officer vote and the plague warning.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
