What happens

Max Manetti, newly released from prison after seven years, returns to New York and visits his family's Italian-American bank, where his brothers are wary of him. He soon meets Irene Bennett, a lawyer's acquaintance with her own troubles, and the two are drawn into a tense relationship. Max's bitterness toward his father and the family business hangs over every scene, and the family's unspoken rivalries surface at a dinner in the household. The story of the Manetti family unfolds through their conflicts, their loyalties and their private resentments.

New York City, in the Italian section, the Manetti family bank, and the family home, with later scenes in nightclubs and a Turkish bath

Listen for: Max's bitter conversations with Irene and his tense confrontations with his brothers at the bank and the family dinner

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
