What happens

In 1927, the aged millionaire Samuel Fulton, who once loved Millicent Blaisdell, sets out to judge her family before leaving them his fortune. Disguised as a bearded border named John Smith, he takes a room in the Hilbert home of Millicent's daughter Harriet and her husband Charles, a druggist. There he meets their daughter Millie, who is courted by the wealthy Carl Pennock, and Dan, a soda clerk, while Fulton takes a job at the drugstore fountain. Rock Hudson, Piper Laurie and Jean Lockhart star in this 1954 Lux Radio Theatre adaptation, first broadcast on January 11, 1954. The episode is an old-time radio romantic comedy.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
