What happens

Tom Bradley, an English automobile engineer, sets off on a holiday in Italy in a company car bearing an advertising slogan. Near the French border he meets Madeline de Beaupre, a stylish woman who has a string of pearls hidden in the car. After a roadside mishap and a customs search, the pearls end up in Tom's coat pocket without his knowledge. Madeline and her companions, Carlos and Olga, must now find a way to recover them. This Lux Radio Theatre adaptation of the Paramount film Desire stars Marlene Dietrich and Herbert Marshall, with Otto Kruger and Zephyr Tilbury, and was broadcast on Monday, March 15, 1937.

Paris, the road from France to the Italian border, and a villa on the Italian coast

Listen for: The exchange at the roadside where Madeline and Tom meet, and the customs office scene where the pearls change hands

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
