What happens
Paul Marjou, a fallen French aristocrat, and his former cabaret acrobat partner Melanie Pons, pose as a genteel guardian and ward in England, planning to marry her into money. In Brighton, Melanie is surprised to find that the young Lord Sheer has fallen in love with her, while Paul's household staff and an old acquaintance, Lady Julia Chartres, begin to take notice of the pair's odd arrangement. Lord Sheer's parents call on Melanie with an offer of money to end the romance, and Paul and Melanie argue over whether their scheme leaves room for feeling. This Lux Radio Theatre production of Noel Coward's play Conversation Piece aired on November 16, 1936, with Lily Pons and Adolphe Menjou in the leads.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
