What happens
Joe and June Time, a struggling vaudeville husband-and-wife act, are dropped from a theater bill and find themselves short of money and work. Their young son Buster quits school and tries to help them land a break, and his small stature becomes both an obstacle and an opportunity. The Lux Radio Theatre presents this 1949 adaptation of the Warner Brothers film April Showers, with Jack Carson as Joe, Dorothy Lamour as June, and Robert Alda as Billy Shea. Originally broadcast on May 16, 1949, the program features songs and comedy as the family pursues a booking on Broadway.
Vaudeville theaters and hotels in the United States, including a hotel where the family lives and a booking office in New York.
Characters: Joe Time, June Time, Buster Time, Billy Shea, Mr. Gordon, Curly, Mr. Barnes, Colonel Rudolph van der Wooten
Listen for: Buster's songs and the family's efforts to get a New York booking, along with the lively musical numbers throughout.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
