What happens

Nick and Nora Charles return to San Francisco from New York, where Nick has retired from detective work. Their homecoming is soon interrupted when Nora's cousin Selma calls in distress, begging them to come to dinner. Nick is pressed into service after Selma's husband, Robert Landis, has been missing for three days. Their search through the city's nightlife leads them into a tense encounter with Robert, a drunken man tangled up with a singer and a suspicious crowd of acquaintances. This Lux Radio Theatre adaptation of the MGM picture stars William Powell as Nick and Myrna Loy as Nora, and the story draws on the familiar couple's sharp, witty chemistry throughout.

San Francisco, New Year's Eve, including the Charles home, a railroad station, and a Chinese restaurant

Characters: Nick Charles, Nora Charles, Selma, Robert Landis, Aunt Catherine, David, Polly, Fingers McCoy

Listen for: The Charles couple's banter as they search for the missing Robert Landis, and the escalating tension when Robert is found drunk at the restaurant

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
