What happens

Sidney Carton and Charles Darnay are caught in the chaos of the French Revolution in this Lux Radio Theatre adaptation of Charles Dickens's A Tale of Two Cities. Ronald Coleman stars as Carton, with Heather Angel as Lucy Manette, in a program broadcast on March 18, 1946. The story opens in Paris in 1793, where condemned aristocrats await the guillotine in a grim prison. Flashbacks trace how Darnay, a Frenchman with a hidden noble past, comes to England, is tried for treason, and is saved by Carton, a lawyer who resembles him. Carton grows attached to Lucy and her family, and the two men's fates become tangled as the Revolution's violence grows.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
