What happens
Hadley, a secret investigator for the state's attorney's office, is tracking a ring passing counterfeit money through the circus. He suspects Spike, a former convict whose cellmate was jailed for counterfeiting. Hadley talks with Mr. Andrews, the circus manager Randall, and others, while Spike spends his time in libraries reading about animals and printing. Hadley finds a book on lithography near Spike's books. Later, Spike is seen with new clothes bought in town, and Hadley begins checking the bill Spike used to pay for them. The episode of Jerry of the Circus, first broadcast October 29, 1937, is part of the series' ninetieth installment.
A circus, its grounds and wagons, and a nearby town with a men's shop on Second Street and Main.
Characters: Hadley, Mr. Andrews, Mr. Randall, Spike, Jerry, Slade, Eddie, Bumps
Listen for: Hadley's phone call to Abbott's men's shop about the ten-dollar bill Spike used.
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
