What happens

Gus Miller, a former convict, takes the identity of Tom Reed after a shipboard meeting and drives toward White Oaks, a gloomy coastal estate where Reed expects a half-million-dollar inheritance from his blind Uncle Walter. Gus learns the man he has impersonated was dying, and he disposes of Reed's body by a roadside lake. At the estate he meets Margaret, Reed's fiancée, who is expected to marry him. Gus must keep up the deception as tensions grow around the house and the family's wealth. This is an episode of Inner Sanctum Mysteries, first broadcast on August 17, 1952.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
