What happens
Reporter Larry Maxwell of the Daily Sentinel tries to interview actress Jeanette Jeffers, who is receiving a visitor named Hal Grafton, who presses her for money over old letters. After Jeffers quarrels with her fiancé, Scott Renier, and Lucy, her secretary, is drawn into Grafton's scheme, Jeffers is found dead in her hotel room. Britt Reid, publisher of the Sentinel, and his valet Cato begin their own search for Grafton, and the investigation turns toward Lucy's movements that evening.
A downtown hotel and a rooming house in an American city in the 1940s.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
