What happens

Jimmy Powers hosts this installment of The Grantland Rice Story, in which the sportswriter reflects on the racehorses he has followed over the years. Rice recalls his first sight of Man O' War at Jamaica in 1920, and he ranks the great horses of his time, placing Exterminator first. He describes the match race between Man O' War and John P. Greer at Aqueduct in July 1920. Jockey Earl Sandy then joins Powers in the studio to talk about riding Man O' War, training Seabiscuit, and the hard toll of keeping his weight down.

A radio broadcast in the studio, with Rice's reminiscences of racetracks including Jamaica, Aqueduct, and Saratoga.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
