What happens
Christopher Pellet, a drunken and disliked white man on the island of Fufuti, depends on his loyal native friend Karaki for company and care. When the island's agent, Mr. Mummery, orders that no rum be sold to Pellet, the alcohol-dependent man grows desperate and violent. Pellet quarrels with the bar boy Jack, and Karaki carries him home to recover. The story follows the two men through the dangers of their escape by canoe and their long voyage across the Pacific, as Karaki continues to look after Pellet. The episode is part of the radio series Escape, first broadcast on August 7, 1954, and stars Hans Conried in the lead role.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
