What happens
Professor James Smith, a San Francisco English professor, and his colleague Bill Donby, a physiologist, watch a deadly illness called the Scarlet Plague spread across the country. Smith sees a student collapse and die in his classroom, and the disease quickly reaches the campus. As fires and violence break out in the city, Smith and Donby gather supplies and take refuge in a hotel with Myra Blake, a young woman from the faculty. The adventure in the Escape series is adapted from Jack London's novel The Scarlet Plague and was broadcast on April 8, 1954.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
