What happens
Three lighthouse keepers on a remote rock off French Guiana, Louis, Auguste and a hunchbacked former actor, face a nightmare when a derelict three-master drifts toward their light. Its decks are swarming with enormous rats, and as the ship grounds on the reef, the creatures flood the island and the tower. Trapped in the upper gallery, the men struggle to keep the light burning and to hold back the swarm. The broadcast is Escape, a 1953 episode adapted from George Toudouze's story and starring Ben Wright, Paul Frees and Jane D'Vello.
A lighthouse on a bare rock off the coast of French Guiana
Characters: Louis, Auguste, John, Narrator
Listen for: The swarm of rats pressing against the glass of the lantern room and the failing light
Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
