What happens

Philip Sutherland, a Moscow reporter, is married to Maria, a Soviet ballerina, but on the day they plan to leave the Soviet Union, Maria is refused permission to travel and he must leave without her. Back in London he tries repeatedly to reach her, and the Soviet authorities then tell him that she is being divorced from him. Determined not to lose her, he enlists his friend Steve Quillan, a broadcaster in Moscow, and a sailor named Denny, and they plan a secret night pickup of Maria on the Baltic coast at Pirita. The Escape series, with its original air date of February 14, 1950, presents this tale of intrigue and romance in a half-hour adventure.

Listen for: Philip's dash to the beach at Pirita, and whether he will reach Maria

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
