What happens

Escape presents Alexander Woollcott's The Vanishing Lady, a 1950 episode from the series. Cynthia Winship arrives in pre-war Paris with her mother during the Great Exposition, and her mother falls gravely ill at the Grand Hotel Universal. A doctor sends Cynthia across the city for medicine, and the journey takes far longer than it should. When she returns, the hotel staff insist that no Mrs. Winship ever stayed there. Cynthia turns to an Englishman, Bruce Stanley, who believes her and tries to help her establish the truth. The episode is cast with Joan Banks as Cynthia, Ben Wright as Bruce, and Anthony Ross as the doctor, with John Hoyt as the hotel manager.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
