What happens

John Todd, a young Scot newly arrived at the trading post on the Niger River in Africa, works under the hard-driving agent Captain Brock. Brock treats Todd with open hostility from the start, and Todd cannot understand the reason for it. Tensions rise over a disputed palm-nut count and a flogging Brock wants to carry out on a native boy. This episode of Escape, broadcast on May 2, 1948, adapts Robert Simpson's story John Jock Todd, with Wilms Herbert as Todd and Jack Crutchfield as Captain Brock.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
