What happens
Thor Saturlin arrives at Madrona Place, the manor house of the late real estate owner Grandfather Wales, after being asked to come by Wales's housekeeper, Holder Swenson. Holder has been found dead in the woods, and her letter to Thor suggested trouble at the house. Thor meets Fleur Wales, the late man's granddaughter, along with her aunts by marriage, Eileen and Bueller, and cousin Ruby Devers, all of whom have claims to the property. Thor questions the household while the sheriff, LaRue, presses the death as a possible murder. The Crime Club series presents this episode, first broadcast on March 13, 1947, from an adaptation of Vera Kelsey's novel Fear Came First.

Written from the episode itself; it never gives away the ending. Every recording is remastered for the stream: cleaned of rumble, hiss and mains hum (and the old TV whine where we found it), then levelled in two passes to steady broadcast loudness, so one show is never quieter than the next.
